The church

The village church of St. Elisabeth is located in the Geunitz district of the Reinstädt community in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Orlamünde in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The small church is centrally located in the village of Geunitz.

The church was built in the Romanesque period . The former chapel was expanded in the Gothic style and received its floor plan that has been preserved to this day. Remains of the Gothic pointed arch windows are preserved on the south and east sides. In the baroque period , the last structural changes took place with the installation of the large windows and galleries .

The GDR authorities allowed a partnership with the municipality of Alfdorf from Baden-Württemberg . From 1981 to 1985, people from East and West renovated the church together.
