history

St. Gangolf is one of the oldest churches in East Westphalia and presumably stood on a Sattelmeierhof , which, however, has not been preserved. The wooden predecessor of today's church probably formed the court chapel.

The church was initially a branch of the Bünder St. Laurentiuskirche . The stone tower served the courtyard as a defense and storage tower and is the oldest part of the church. Its core was probably built around the year 800. In the Romanesque period the wooden hall gave way to an almost square stone building, which has had today's dimensions since 1696. In the Thirty Years' War devastated the church was rebuilt again to 1665 and in the following years, with baroque inventory (including a pulpit and a baptismal font from 1673 and an organ equipped by 1722).

Lutheran preaching was already taking place in Hiddenhausen around 1530, but the Reformation was initially unsuccessful. This finally succeeded only around 1647/50 with the introduction of the new consistorial constitution by the Brandenburg elector .

In 1911, 1940 and 1956 the church was rebuilt or renovated. So the galleries and entrances were redesigned. Inside are the clock tower from 1884, the late Gothic altar from 1520 with the Gangolf figure and numerous picture panels. Behind the organ prospectus from 1722 there is a modern Kleuker organ from 1971.
