The St. Georg is the oldest still navigable steamship in Germany and is based in Hamburg .
history
The St. Georg was built in 1876 at the Reiherstieg shipyard in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg and was originally called the Falke , later Galatea . It was given its current name in 1936. After the Second World War she came to West Berlin as a motor ship Germany and operated on the Havel and Wannsee . The Hamburg association Alsterdampfschifffahrt e. V. bought St. Georg in the winter of 1988/1989 and has been operating it from Jungfernstieg since 1994.
Technical specifications
In 1988 the ship was taken over by the Hamburg association Alsterdampfschiffahrt eV and then restored at the shipyard in Dresden - Laubegast and returned to its condition from the 1920s / 30s.
It got a 2-cylinder steam engine from 1922 with 75 HP, the boiler is now oil-fired and has a steam output of 1 t / h. In the winter of 2009/2010, a duplex pump was also installed as a feed pump .
Museum steamer
Since 1994 the St. Georg has been operating again as an Alster steamer in Hamburg, except during the winter break , with regular one-hour trips on the inland and outer Alster from Jungfernstieg , jetty 4. In 2014, the ship carried 35,500 people. It is crewed by three people: captain, conductor and machinist.
