The church

The village church of St. Georg is located in Ulla , a district of Nohras within the community of Grammetal in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The parish of Ulla belongs to the parish association Niederzimmer in the parish of Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The Protestant village church with a walled cemetery is located on the western edge of the village.

history

In 1257 a pastor was first mentioned in Ulla. It can be assumed that the choir tower church with its original west entrance is much older. In 1472 the church was extended to the east by a Gothic choir . In the 18th / 19th In the 19th century the galleries and the pulpit altar were built . In 1980 this was removed and the nave opened to the east choir. 1997-2000 the parish renovated the walls with the help of the German Monument Foundation. The church has an organ made by the Witzmann brothers from 1839 that can be used again since 2005. Maintenance work was carried out in the access area, the galleries and the choir.

The church tower , raised in Baroque style , was renovated in the 21st century.

In front of the church is the monument to the theologian and university reformer Wilhelm Martin Leberecht de Wette, who was born in the village in 1780 .
