The Protestant village church of St. Georg is located in the middle of the Wormstedt district of the city of Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

history

The construction of the church started in 1617. A year later the Thirty Years War began . In 1622 the church was completed despite the war.

The west tower is 33 meters high and, in terms of construction, embodies the transition period from Romanticism to Gothic and was therefore built as early as 1200.

The nave and the choir are built in the late Gothic style. They have pointed arch windows . A rectangular building is attached to the north of the choir. It's the sacristy . The interior contains the remains of a sacraments . The church was completed in 1717.

There was a thorough renovation of the sacred building in 1884. During the restoration in the 1980s, Horst Jahresling was the advisor.

In the churchyard there was a stone baptismal font from 1200. It was reintegrated into the church in 1996.

The tombstone of the mother of the composer Georg Philipp Telemann Maria Telemann, b. Haltmeyer was found, identified and reconstructed. She had lived with her son Heinrich Mathias Telemann, pastor in Wormstedt.
