St. Georg (Steinkirchen)
St. Georg is a Catholic church in the Upper Bavarian community of Planegg , district of Steinkirchen, in the district of Munich .
history
A subsidiary church in Puchheim is mentioned as early as 1315 . St. George has been guaranteed as the patron saint since 1524 . Three altars are mentioned quite early on . Because in the 18th century people were thinking about founding a parish in Planegg, necessary renovations were repeatedly postponed. Further reasons for this are the War of the Austrian Succession and the construction of the Maria Eich pilgrimage church. On April 24, 1745, the old church collapsed, but the worshipers, the Holy of Holies and the altars could be brought out of the building undamaged.
Already on September 22nd, 1745, the Lord Mayor Johann Baptist von Ruffin was asked by an episcopal letter to restore the church, but this did not happen until June 11th, 1748, when the first stone was laid for the new house. The following year the church was completed, but the altars were not yet consecrated. As a floor plan of the previous building served, but it was expanded into a rectangle, so now that the left and right of the chancel space for the sacristy was built. There were four columns in the nave until 1891, which were then replaced by iron bars. In 1764 the tower was rebuilt, it was no longer a saddle tower. Overall, the tower now has a height of 35.30 m. The damp location on the Würm made it necessary to renovate the church again and again, for example in 1861, 1891, 1902, 1939, 1948, 1964, 1982 and most recently in 2003. In 2007 the surrounding abandoned cemetery was renovated by the municipality of Planegg, so that now the whole ensemble shines in new splendor.
Today the church is a branch of the parish St. Elisabeth (Planegg)
