St. Gertrudis (Dilkrath)
The Catholic parish church of St. Gertrud is a listed church building in Dilkrath , a district of Schwalmtal in the Viersen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The three-aisled pseudo - basilica was built in 1460 with a three- story west tower in front of it . This is where the entrance portal and tracery window are located . Inside, cross vaults rest on round pillars. From 1902 to 1904 it was expanded in a neo-Gothic style to include a projecting transept and a staggered choir , based on designs by C. Rüdell and R. Odenthal . The old building was to protect the bricks plastered and colored in brick red with bright joints line taken . The brick remained visible in the new building. The glass paintings in the old building were made in 1880, those in the new building in 1904.
Furnishing
The carved reredos of the three altars from the end of the 19th century were purchased for the old building. The baptismal font from Blaustein is decorated from the 15th century, he is profiled rich with four head masks. The neo-Gothic metal lid is dome-shaped. The church windows were made in 1904 by the well-known Cologne glass painting workshop Schneiders & Schmolz .
organ
The organ was built in 1762 by the organ builder D. Schouten. The housing oak is partially gold-plated. It is crowned by a figure of King David from 1958. The organ gallery with a carved neo-Gothic parapet was built in 1850. The organ work was supplemented in 1957 by the Seifert organ building company. It has nine stops on one manual. The pedal (C – c 1 ) is attached.
