The listed parish church St. Jacobi ( St. Jacobi Church ) in the Jüterbog district of Neumarkt in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg in a central location on the churchyard is now assigned to the St. Nikolai Church in Jüterbog .

The history

Construction of the church began at the beginning of the 13th century. It was possibly planned as a basilica, but was completed in the second quarter of the 13th century smaller. The sacristy was added in the 15th century. During the Thirty Years War the town of Neumarkt was temporarily uninhabited, but from 1636 it was repopulated by returning residents who built the roofs and the barrel vaults of the church.

According to the weather vane, the tower was built in 1724. Further changes were made to the windows in the 18th century. In 1822 the pulpit and altar were joined and parts of the tower were renewed in the 19th century. From 1996 to 1999 the church was renovated.

The church is a hall in the late Romanesque style with a retracted apse and choir . The windows from that time are framed with field stone. In the choir there are two windows in the Baroque style . The sacristy with a late medieval door is located on the south side of the choir. Until the time the tower was built, the bells were in a bell tower next to the church. The nave and the choir are covered by a wooden barrel as a ceiling, the apse is a dome. There is a triumphal arch on the east side of the ship.

The ceiling and wall paintings from the second half of the 15th century were discovered in 1901 and partially changed and repainted in 1904. Today they are difficult to recognize. On the north side of the choir there are depictions of the Passion in five scenes. On the south side the anointing, the burial, the resurrection, the descent into hell and the ascension of Christ were depicted. On the north side of the ship there is a landscape picture, when it was created and what it is supposed to represent is unclear. On the east side of the ship there is a Radiant Madonna. In the wooden barrel ceiling there are paintings from 1701 by Schorn from Berlin.

Furnishing

Of the three altars from the middle altar, only parts of the Jacobial tar are left. When the altarpiece was created is unknown, depending on the source, the years 1708, 1709 and 1736 are named, it was created by the Jüterbog sculptor Johann Angermann. There are pillars on the right and left, these are accompanied by Moses and Jesus Christ on the side, the pulpit is between the pillars. In the predella there is a depiction of the Last Supper , above the pulpit there is a ray halo with a god's eye . In 1999 the altarpiece was renovated and paintings from the 19th century were exposed.

The late Gothic baptismal font with an octagonal cup and a round base has an octagonal base. In a wooden ring on the baptismal font there is a brass baptismal bowl from the 16th century. On the frieze there are bulls' heads with leaves and flowers, in the middle a lion is depicted. The organ from 1784 was renovated in 1932 by the Sauer company from Frankfurt (Oder) . A crucifix from the 15th century is located on a beam under the triumphal arch.

In the apse there is a small sacrificial box in the form of a chest, it was made from a tree in the late Middle Ages.

There are galleries on three sides of the ship. The inscription “AD. 1604, PETRVS. BERENT. HANS. LEMAN. LORENTZ. MELIS ”. The western two-storey gallery was built in 1724, the second storey was added with the installation of the organ in 1784. The old gallery banks have been preserved. The confessional or pastor's seat dates from 1721. The choir stalls were built before or in the middle of the 17th century.

There are also memorial plaques for the wars from 1864 to 1871 and for the fallen and dead of the First World War in the church.

The two bells date from the 13th century and from 1538.
