St. James (Pelkum)
The Protestant Church of St. Jakobus is a listed church building on Pelkumer Kirchplatz in Pelkum , a district of Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
The hall church with two bays and a single bay choir in the 5/8 end stands within a tree-lined, converted church square. The retracted west tower and the side walls are preserved from a Romanesque hall building . The choir dates from the first half of the 14th century; the nave was built between 1738 and 1739. The simple plastered building is structured on the nave by arched windows. The richly shaped east window was opened again in 1902/03. The top floor of the tower was probably built up in the first half of the 14th century. Rough, flat-arched ribbed vaults made of plastered wood were drawn into the nave . In the choir, rib vaults with relief keystones rest over consoles . The bell was cast in 1404 by a master Eilerd or Everd; it is tuned to tone b1 + 2. During a renovation in the mid-1970s, a white slurry plaster was applied to protect the coarsely layered masonry.
