St. Jakobus Church in Ruderatshofen

St. Jakobus is the Catholic parish church in Ruderatshofen in the Ostallgäu district in Bavaria . It was built in its current form in 1733. The parish church bears the patronage of St. James the Elder .

history

As early as 839, the Kempten Monastery owned what was then known as "Hruodoldishova" Ruderatshofen. Around two centuries later, a first pastor, a "Pilgrim zu Roteratshova" is mentioned. The first Romanesque church was built during this time. This parish church was rebuilt in the 15th century, the substructure of the tower was taken over from the previous church.

In 1733 the parish church was changed in the baroque style. During this time, the nave was also increased and the parish church was extended to accommodate more believers. In the years 1869–1871 and 1884–1885, the parish church was redesigned in neo-Gothic style . The neo-Gothic altars attached during this time were removed again in the course of an interior renovation in 1953. The pastor at the time, Keil, had a modern high altar built with paintings by Magnus Hotter from Marktoberdorf instead . These paintings depict scenes from the legend of St. James. An exterior renovation was carried out in 1964. Four years later, in 1968, the altar was again redesigned by Pastor Holdenrieder. He had the modern altar, erected only 15 years earlier, and the organ removed. The chancel was redesigned during this time. A new high altar, in the execution of a wing altar , was created by Hans Wachter from Kempten. He also created the baptismal font and the tabernacle . The last exterior renovation of the parish church was carried out in 1989, after which the interior furnishings were restored again by Pastor Hans Zahner in 1991–1992. The high altar was consecrated on November 28, 1993 by the Augsburg auxiliary bishop Rudolf Schmid .

Furnishing

The high altar currently in the parish church contains winged altar paintings by Jakob Scherer from 1865. These altar paintings were originally in Augsburg Cathedral . When closed, they show Christ on the Mount of Olives; when open, they show the preaching of the Lord with the prophets Jeremiah , Isaiah , Daniel and Ezekiel . The antependium shows the Last Supper as a half relief , this is the only remaining remnant of the old high altar. The two side altars show a portrait of Maria Immaculata and St. Sebastian. The side altars were rebuilt in 2000 and 2001.

Votive tablet of the Rothensteiners

Panel painting in the parish church, ca.1520

A special feature in the parish church is the Rothensteiner votive tablet. The votive plaque is attached to the north wall of the choir and was probably painted in 1520. The body of Jesus Christ removed from the cross is shown on the panel. He rests in the arms of the apostle John and is weeping by Mary. This is followed by the Rothensteiners .
