Church of St. Johannes Baptist in Schönhofen

The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Johannes Baptist in the Schönhofen district of the Nittendorf market in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria (Alpinenstrasse 9) dates from the 16th century.

history

The parish of Nittendorf was only created after the introduction of the Reformation in Pfalz-Neuburg in place of the parish of Deuerling , which belonged to the convent . In 1598 the new parish was assigned the areas south of the Laaber Nursing Office, including the Schönhofen branch church. Therefore, one can assume that the church dates from the 16th century.

Structure and equipment

The church is a rectangular hall with a gable roof and an attached choir . The west tower is covered with a pyramid roof. The choir is increased by one step. The west side is a grown rock bank up to the height of the roof, only on this the tower was built.

The altar and the pulpit are from the 17th century and have two columns. The assistant figures are St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist present; these wooden figures come from the 19th century. The four evangelists are depicted on the pulpit . On the east wall are the figures of St. Peter and St. Paul from the 16th century, the cross on the south wall dates from the 18th century.

The following inscription can be read on a bell: Mrs. Ida Chatarina Saurzapf, born Labrique 1687 . The Sauerzapf also gave the church a silver chalice with a marriage coat of arms, which was made by Hans Kurtz between 1606 and 1622.

In the church there is also a memorial stone for the Sauerzapf family from 1708. It refers to Georg Christoph Sauerzapf to Schönhofen and Loch as well as to his sister Susanne Maria Sauerzapf . This red marble plaque is surrounded by a wreath of clouds with a coat of arms, in the relief are shown Johannes Baptist and Johannes Evangelist .
