St. John's beheading

The Catholic parish church of St. Johannes Beheading is a listed church building at Kirchknapp 5 in Asseln , a district of Lichtenau in the Paderborn district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The hall church with a transept and a polygonal closed choir was built in 1906/07 instead of a previous building that had been demolished in 1615. The walls were made of sandstone blocks, the tower stands on the west side. In the nave, groin vaults rest on consoles, and barrel vaults are drawn into the transept arms .

Furnishing

  • The octagonal baptismal font in the shape of a cup is decorated with rosettes and a frieze of teeth . It was created in the first half of the 17th century.
  • The oak pulpit with carved herms and a gilded donor coat of arms is marked 1616.
  • The standing Virgin Mary made of wood is a Westphalian work from the first half of the 15th century. The version was later renewed.
