Wooden altar inside the church

The village church was first mentioned in a document in 1344. In 1522 the nave and choir were built. The portal , built in 1727, was renewed in 1859.

After the roof collapsed in the 1980s, the nave became a ruin. From then on, services were held in the lower area of the church tower. Members of the parish began in 1990 to clear the nave ruin and make it accessible again.

In August 2006 the church on the Unstrut-Wipper cycle path was the fourth church in Thuringia to be dedicated to the cyclists' church. In 2007, a steel and glass roof with solar collectors was built into the nave as part of the village renovation . After the renovation was completed, the church was reopened on June 3, 2007.

Pastor Jens Bechtloff received the Thuringian Environment Prize in 2017 for the initiative to erect solar panels on the renovated church roof .
