history

The Förderkreis Alte Kirchen Berlin-Brandenburg reported in its newsletter from October 2019 that a first sacred building was destroyed by a flood of the Elbe. The parish then built a half-timbered church in 1703 , but it was destroyed by a lightning strike. To avoid re-destruction by a flood, the building was made of made of bricks built the current building in the years 1892-1894 on a sure heaped mound .

After the Second World War and the division of Germany , the church was in the restricted area and was no longer allowed to be entered. The parish therefore had to watch as the building gradually fell into disrepair. After the fall of the Wall , the church was only a ruin, which had to be closed due to the risk of collapse. After the roof leaked, water entered the building; the dry rot had spread. After considering demolition, a support association was founded in 1999, which gradually renovated the building until 2012. The wall paintings from the construction period could be exposed and the altar and pulpit restored. In the 21st century, the church is used for numerous cultural events in addition to worship. In 2019, the roof, which was secured in 1999, was finally renovated.
