history

Transitional Church

In the 1950s, the population in Burglengenfeld increased sharply due to the industrial settlement in the immediate vicinity. In 1958, the then Archbishop of Regensburg Michael Buchberger visited the city of Burglengenfeld and named the area "Sand" as the location for a possible second parish church in the city. At the beginning of the 1970s, the episcopal finance chamber acquired a plot of land in the urban area of "Sand" and appointed the prefect at the Straubing study seminar, Hans Preißl, as an expository with the task of building a new parish. In 1974 the parish boundaries were set together with the parish of St. Vitus . On October 1st, 1974, the independent parish "Am Sand" Burglengenfeld was founded by Bishop Rudolf Graber. A provisional prefabricated transitional building served as the church building . Hans Preißl was appointed parish curate.

Parish center St. Josef

In 1976 construction work began to establish a parish center. Two years later, the parish could move into the rectory as the first completed construction phase. At the end of the same year the tower, a campanile designed as a modern steel construction with a wooden paneled tower room, was completed. The completely completed building was consecrated as a church on May 6, 1979 by Auxiliary Bishop Karl Flügel .
