The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Josef is a church building in Oer-Erkenschwick in the Recklinghausen district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The cubic skeleton structure was built from 1970 to 1972, together with the kindergarten, according to plans by Joachim Schürmann . The curtain wall consists of white painted steel, glass and black wood paneling. The exterior is characterized by the contrast between generously glazed corners and closed wall panels. The simple shape is enlivened by the asymmetrical arrangement of the entrances and downpipes. The interior and exterior are interlaced by the glazing that extends to the floor. In the interior, a space framework rests on four supports. It is comparable to the Ecumenical Church Center in the Olympic Village in Munich, which was built by Christ & Karg from 1969 to 1972. The dark ceiling zone is set off against the light community area.
