St. Kamillus (Essen-Heidhausen)
The church of St. Kamillus , built by Kamillians , was built from 1900 to 1901 and is located in the Essen district of Heidhausen . It is directly adjacent to the Kamillushaus, an addiction clinic .
History and architecture
The church was designed by the Aachen architect Peter Aßheuer . At the same time, a new branch was created for the Kamillians who founded a hospital for alcohol-addicted men right next to the church and which still exists today. Since the early 1920s, St. Kamillus has served the newly created rectorate community for pastoral care.
The hall church has three separate of slender columns ships . The outer ships are half as wide as the middle one. There is no transept. The choir has a 5/8 apse . It was built on one side and can be reached from the camomile house via an oratory . The gothic window tracery are made of concrete . In 1974 Nikolaus Bette created the artistic glazing of the church and in 1995 the historicizing color appearance of the interior. In the same year Michael Stratmann designed the glazed iron door system with a handcrafted quality. The pneumatically built Walcker organ from 1901 was completely restored in 1996.
The church received its monument protection status in the summer of 1986.
