St. Laurentius (Schönau an der Brend)
The Roman Catholic Kuratiekirche St. Laurentius is the village church of Schönau an der Brend , a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . It stands on the Kirchberg and is consecrated to St. Lawrence . The church is part of the parish community "Am Kreuzberg" in Bischofsheim .
The church is surrounded by the cemetery , which is divided into an old and a new part. There is also a morgue. In the new cemetery there are urn graves, a large cross and a memorial for those who died in both world wars. At the foot of the Kirchberg stands the monument to Otto Feick , the co-inventor of the gym wheel .
history
Schönau has always been a branch of the Wegfurt parish . The current church was built in 1608. The building inscription above the main portal indicates the demolition of an older church at the same point. Schönau has been a curate since 1969 . In the fall of 2008, the 400th anniversary of the church was celebrated with a large ceremony.

The church tower is a Julius Echter tower with pointed arched sound windows and stands on the north side of the choir . The choir with a three-eighths closure has a stitch cap vault . The nave with three window axes , on the other hand, has a flat roof. The choir and nave are separated by a pointed choir arch . The windows of the church are ogival with tracery .
Furnishing
The high altar was made around 1700. The central altarpiece shows the Last Supper between the figures of Saint Stephen and Laurentius and the picture in the excerpt shows the Holy Family . The two side altars were built around 1750 and come from the Bildhausen monastery . On the left side altar the adoration of the kings is shown in the central picture , in the excerpt the flight to Egypt . The central image of the right side altar is the martyrdom of St. Kilian , that in the extract is again St. Kilian. The organ is set up on the western gallery .
