The Protestant village church of San Lorenzo in Dedesdorf , a district of Loxstedt in Wesermarsch , is the only church on the right Weser shore leading to the Lutheran Evangelical Church in Oldenburg belongs. The same pastor has been looking after the parish in Dedesdorf and the parish in Esenshamm on the left bank of the Weser for a few years .

Church building

To the right of the Gothic portal one of the windows enlarged in the 19th century

The core of the single-nave church is a Gothic brick building from the end of the 13th century, but it was heavily modified in the 19th century. In 1838 the old apse was demolished and the nave was extended to the east, now with a rectangular finish. At the same time, most of the windows were enlarged and given arched arches , so that there are no more typical Gothic church windows. However, the sandstone portal on the south side of the nave is late Gothic. Above it was once a sculpture, probably of a saint, the console and canopy of which have been preserved. In 1663 Count Anton Günther von Oldenburg had his coat of arms added between these Gothic stone carvings . In 1870 the medieval tower of the church was replaced by today's neo-Gothic west tower.

organ

Schnitger organ from 1698

In 1698, Arp Schnitger built an organ with two manuals and twelve registers , which today has 18 registers after adding a pedal mechanism. The original manual housing and ten registers including the wind chests and keyboards are preserved. A special feature is the twin drawer, which Schnitger built several times, but only survived in Dedesdorf and Moreira (Portugal). In 1998/1999 a comprehensive restoration was carried out by Heiko Lorenz ( Alfred Führer ), during which the instrument was returned to its original condition.
