St. Laurentius in Mainbach

The Catholic Church of St. Laurentius is a monument in Mainbach near Hollenbach . It is a branch of the Hollenbach parish of St. Peter and Paul .

history

The patronage of St. Laurentius could go back to the year 955, the year of the Lechfeld Battle , which took place on Laurentius Day. Remains of a Romanesque choir tower church may still be hidden in the building. The church has belonged to the parish of Hollenbach since the 13th century. In 1266 the church came into the possession of the Fürstenfeld monastery . Today's simple rectangular building with a gable roof was built around 1660 and changed in the early 18th century. In 1821 the tower was dilapidated and therefore demolished. Today's neo-Gothic pointed helmet tower dates back to 1874. The picture of the painful Mother of God in the main altar was the destination of a regionally limited pilgrimage in the 18th century , as can be seen today in a votive picture from 1797.

Furnishing

The interior of the church was redesigned in baroque style in 1719 . The altar with the miraculous image also dates from this time . The other pictures are also about Maria . The figures on the high altar represent Saint Lawrence , Martin , Rochus and Sebastian . The ceiling fresco from the first half of the 20th century shows the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence.
