history

Entrance door with coat of arms of the builders Ludwig von Rothenstein and Jutta von Hürnheim

The tower of the church, which was built from local Nagelfluh , dates from the 12th century . The church was originally built in the Gothic style, only to be changed to Baroque style and then to be regothicized again. The two coats of arms of the builder Ludwig von Rothenstein and his wife Jutta von Hürnheim are carved at the entrance of the church together with the year 1439 . On a measuring sheet from 1821 there is a cemetery around the church, this no longer exists. The two bells in the tower were cast in Kempten in 1863. The branch chapel in Ittelsburg suffered the same fate as the parish church of St. Philipp and Jakob in Bad Grönenbach and was cleared out and "modernized" between 1967 and 1969.

Building description

The branch church has a retracted choir with a 3/8 end. On the west side is a gallery with twisted wooden pillars from the 17th century. The tower is an undivided Nagefluh building with a gable roof and sound arcades on three sides on the upper floor.

Furnishing

There are several paintings in the branch church. So is the church patron, St. Leonhard , depicted as patron of the prisoners in a painting from 1687. This painting also bears the coat of arms of the Kemptic abbot Rupert von Bodman . The Way of the Cross, consisting of 14 stations, was donated in 1779 by Marianne Schindlerin from the nearby hamlet stripes . On the two modern side altars there are two old wooden figures, a standing Virgin Mary from 1510/1520 and St. Joseph from the 18th century. The stalls in the church date from the 18th century and are made of softwood.
