Evangelical St. Lorenz Church
Altar, organ and pulpit

The listed Evangelical-Lutheran village church of St. Lorenz is surrounded by a high linden tree and a stone wall with a wrought-iron gate on a slope on the edge of the Eisfeld district of Hirschendorf in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

In 1499 a chapel in the center of the village was mentioned, from which the wooden church built in 1717 above the village at the cemetery took the name of St. Lorenz .

The lower part of the nave is a solid building made of stone blocks from 1748. Above there is half-timbering and the tiled roof . The keystones above the portals bear the year 1788. The tapering church tower with ball and weather valve is designed as a ridge turret. Two steel bells hang in it, the large one cast in 1920 and the small one in 1957.

The sermon church is simply furnished. The interior is surrounded by a single-storey gallery , interrupted by the pulpit . The altar stands east in the room with a crucifix with a body from the 18th century. The organ with nine registers on a manual and pedal from 1737 is located in the gallery above the altar. It is a work by Johann Christian Dotzauer from Hildburghausen. Behind the altar there are pictures of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon . Stained glass windows with biblical depictions were donated in 1953. The baptismal font dates from the end of the 16th century and is believed to have come from the chapel. In 2008 the roof and the bell tower were renovated. The facade was repaired from 2015 to 2016.

Originally the church belonged to the Eisfelder Kirchsprengel. In 1903 Hirschendorf was parish off to Crock and in 2019 it came to Sachsenbrunn .
