St. Maria Queen (Obernbreit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Maria Königin is a Catholic branch church in Markt Obernbreit in Lower Franconia . The church is on Sonnenstrasse and is part of the Kitzingen deanery .

history

After Obernbreit was mentioned for the first time in 1268, it was not until the 15th century that a separate parish was established in the village. Since 1477 the right of presentation , i.e. the right to appoint the pastor, had come to the Margraves of Ansbach. The Reformation was introduced under Margrave Georg in 1528 . Even today Obernbreit is predominantly evangelical-Lutheran.

Only in the second half of the 20th century were enough Catholics living in Obernbreit again to found their own congregation. In 1966, Bishop Josef Stangl set up a church foundation to build a house of God. In 1970 the episcopal building authority in Würzburg completed the plans for the church and construction could begin. On July 19, 1970 the consecration took place by the auxiliary bishop Alfons Kempf . The building was renovated for the first time in 1997.

Architecture and equipment

The Obernbreiter Filialkirche presents itself as a simple building without a church tower. Inside, equipment elements from the time of construction predominate. The people's altar , the ambo , the tabernacle stele and the sediles are made of shell limestone and are based on a design by the Würzburg artist Helmut Weber. He also created the font. By Karl Clobes from Tückelhausen the painted stations of the cross comes on the altar wall. The Mother of God as a bronze relief from 1970 is by Ruth Schaumann from Munich. There is also an electric organ in the church.
