St. Mary Queen of St. Rosenkranz , also known as St. Maria vom Rosenkranz or St. Maria Königin for short , is the Catholic church in Bleckede , a town in the Lüneburg district in Lower Saxony . It is the northernmost church in the Deanery Lüneburg, and as a parish church belongs to the diocese of Hildesheim . The church was named after the Marian title Queen of the Holy Rosary and is located in the street Auf dem Kamp 5 .

history

On May 12, 1968 took place the consecration of the newly built church by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen , as a daughter church of the parish of St. Michael in Dahlenburg . Before that, there was a Catholic service in Bleckede in the Protestant church. In 2002 the church was elevated to a parish church , and the churches of St. Michael in Dahlenburg and Mariä Himmelfahrt in Neuhaus were assigned as subsidiary churches. In 2005/06 the church was renovated and redesigned by the Hamburg architect Karsten Holst, with the rear wall behind the altar being moved slightly outwards. Since 2016 the pastor of St. Marien in Lüneburg is also officially the pastor of the parish of St. Maria Königin vom St. Rosary .

Architecture and equipment

The church, located around 10 meters above sea level , was built according to the plans of the Diocesan Building Office, designed as a prefabricated concrete church with a tower. The 14 large-format wooden panels with biblical motifs installed in the interior of the church are remarkable ; they were created in 1991/92 by the Polish artist Jaroslav Swart. Two bronze bells from the renowned Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen / Bremen hang in the tower . The bells were cast in 1969; they have the beats c "and d" and the diameters 743 mm and 662 mm.
