St. Michael (Dahlenburg)
St. Michael is the Roman Catholic Church in Dahlenburg , a town in the Lüneburg district in Lower Saxony . It is a branch church of the parish “ St. Maria Königin vom St. Rosenkranz ”based in Bleckede , in the dean's office in Lüneburg. The church named after the Archangel Michael is located at Lüneburger Landstrasse 28 (corner of Meisenweg). It is the last barrack church from the early post-war period in the Hildesheim diocese that is still in operation .
history
As a result of the Second World War , the number of Catholics in Dahlenburg , which has been Protestant since the Reformation, increased considerably due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . Shortly after 1945 a Catholic parish began to form, at first Dahlenburg was a church service station and a pastoral care district of the Lüneburg parish " St. Marien ". On November 1, 1951, took place benediction of the next to the cemetery of Dahlenburg newly built church by Vicar General William Offenstein . The church building previously served as an English casino in Brietlingen and was moved to Dahlenburg.
1968 got “St. Michael "with the church" St. Mary Queen of St. Rosenkranz “a branch church in Bleckede. On October 1, 1980, the Dahlenburg Catholic parish was established.
In 2002 the church in Bleckede was elevated to a parish church , since then the church “St. Michael "to the parish" St. Mary Queen of St. Rosary "in Bleckede.
Architecture and equipment
The church, located around 43 meters above sea level , is the last barrack church from the early post-war period still in operation and a rare architectural testimony to the modest beginnings of the Catholic Church in the rural diaspora areas of the Hildesheim diocese.
