The Votive Church in Hoflach

The listed Roman Catholic Votive Church St. Maria and Georg in Hoflach ( Hoflach Memorial Chapel ) near Alling in the Fürstenfeldbruck district ( Upper Bavaria ) is a Gothic church built in 1422 . It is located a little north of the federal highway 2 between Eichenau and Alling.

history

The church was donated by Duke Ernst of Bavaria in memory of the Battle of Alling , in which his son Albrecht III. had been saved by Bavaria and Ernst had won the Bavarian War . The church was renovated outside in 1997 and inside from 2001 to 2002.

construction

The Votive Church is a hall church with a choir closed on three sides and a tower in the north. It is accessible through a portal in the south, above which there is a weathered wall painting, which probably dates from the 15th century. To the west of the church is the benefit house from the baroque period .

Furnishing

On the north wall of the church there is a monumental votive picture in memory of the Battle of Alling. Its attribution to the Munich painter Gabriel Angler has recently been questioned. It shows the three Bavarian dukes, who at the head of the under the protection of St. George standing victorious army in front of St. Anna , Maria and their kin kneel. Numerous aristocrats and Munich citizens are identified by their coats of arms. The picture was restored in 1845 and 1970. In addition to the painting, there is a fragmentary mural from the 17th century depicting the death of Mary.

The high altar from the late 17th century shows St. Georg and Florian , a crescent moon Madonna and St. Margareta and Barbara , next to them figures of St. Leonhard and Wolfgang (15th century). A rosary Madonna hangs in the church .
