St. Marien (Königshofen)

The church

The Protestant Church of St. Marien is in the Königshofen district of the Heideland community in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Königshofen in the church district Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

location

The Church of St. Mary is centrally located in the village and can be seen from afar.

history

The old church of St. Marien was demolished in 1836. In 1839 the new single-nave church was consecrated. There is a portal in the middle of the church ; high arched windows structure the front. The onion dome is 46 meters high.

Furnishing

The furnishings are classical . On the long sides of the nave there are two-story galleries on Doric columns. The choir arch blocks a high pulpit altar , which is divided into three parts by a Corinthian pilaster .

organ

The organ was installed in 1837 by Johann August Poppe from Jena . It has two manuals and 22 registers , making it the most valuable instrument of the second Poppe generation.

Bells

The bells were melted down during the First World War . Since 1921 there has been a ringing of steel bells.

Baptismal font

The baptismal font from the early Romanesque period is in the churchyard under the large linden tree .
