St. Marien is the Catholic parish church in Sande , a district in Paderborn in East Westphalia . It was built in 1952/53.

Construction and equipment

The Sander Marienkirche is a three-aisled basilica in quasi- Romanesque shapes with a transverse rectangular tower and double portal. The white plastered walls with stone-exposed edges and reveals as well as the shape and arrangement of windows and doors are designed according to the Paderborn Abdinghof Church.

The interior also received a white held the architectural forms underlining pale red line ornament on at the last renovation barrel vault a coffering mimics. A large wooden crucifix on the altar wall and the figures of the crowned Mother of God and the Holy Family date from the time the church was built.

The mission cross from 1920 is on the church square in front of the rectory. The altar of the Marienkapelle from 1901 had stood in the same place.

history

Church parish life in Sande has existed since April 1844. At that time the parish belonged to Elsen and was looked after by the local vicars . The services were celebrated in the old boys' school . The Marienkapelle was built in Sande with personal contribution and consecrated on September 2nd, 1901. Initially only masses were celebrated in the chapel; the rest of the sacramental acts continued to take place in Elsen.

In 1920 a people's mission began in Sande. In the years 1922-23 the pastorate was built and the cemetery was laid out.

On January 1, 1944, the community in Sande was raised to an independent parish. The first pastor was Josef Weisgut. Today's parish church was built under his leadership. The parishioners contributed to the construction with their own contributions and donations. The church was consecrated on May 6, 1953.

1981–1982 the parish hall was built. Since January 1996 2 groups have been looked after in the Catholic kindergarten.

Church affiliation

The church and parish belong to the Paderborn deanery in the archbishopric of the same name . Together with the parish of St. Michael in Paderborn-Sennelager, the St. Marien parish forms the Sande-Sennelager pastoral association .
