St. Markus in Rapperzell

The Catholic branch church St. Markus is a monument in Rapperzell near Schiltbach .

St. Markus is a single-nave, flat-roofed building with a three-sided end and a roof turret. The church probably dates from the 15th century. It was changed around 1720/1730, as indicated by a coat of arms from the Blumenthal Comptur of the Teutonic Order Johann Franz Ernst von Weichs on the west gallery . The altar was made around 1720/30. The remarkable figure equipment includes a Saint Mark ( sitting on a lion around 1480/1490) and a figure of Saint Mark on a throne between lions (around 1490/1500), a figure of Saint Wendelin from the end of the 15th century Our Lady (also end of the 15th century), a figure of St. Nicholas (around 1500/1510) and one of St. Johann Nepomuk from 1735. The latter was created by the Friedberg sculptor Johann Caspar Öberl .
