Hermann Haering

Hermann Haering (born May 4, 1886 in Stuttgart , † December 18, 1967 in Koengen ) was a German historian , librarian and archivist .

Live and act

Hermann Haering, son of Tübingen theology professor Theodor von Haering (1848–1928), studied history , German and Latin philology at the universities of Tübingen , Bonn , Freiburg / Br . and Berlin , where he received his doctorate in 1910. Since 1910 he was a research assistant at the General State Archives in Karlsruhe . After serving in the First World War, he was a librarian at the University Library of Tübingen from 1919 to 1933 (deputy director from 1922), where he mainly devoted himself to the manuscript department and the university archive. In 1933 he moved to Stuttgart as archivist and was in charge of the Württemberg archives and the Stuttgart State Archives . In 1935 he was also chairman of the Württemberg History and Antiquity Association and in 1936 the Württemberg Commission for State History . After his release from civil service by the American military government in 1945, he took care of the archives of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Haering achieved great merit by editing and editing the 9th edition of "Sources of German History", founded by Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann and Georg Waitz , which appeared in 1931/1932.

Hermann Haering's estate, including 136 volumes of diaries from the years 1898 to 1967, is in the Stuttgart State Archives (call number J 40/15).

His brother was the Tübingen philosophy professor Theodor Lorenz Haering (1884–1964).
