Zhang Ming (diplomat)

Zhang Ming ( Chinese  张明 ; * June 1957 in Li , Baoding , Hebei ) is a diplomat of the People's Republic of China who was Deputy Foreign Minister between 2013 and 2017 and has been the Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations since 2017 .

Life

Zhang Ming, who belongs to the Han ethnic group , began his professional career in 1975 and was sent to work in Shangqiu between 1976 and 1978 at the end of the Cultural Revolution . In 1978 he began studying Arabic at the Faculty of Asian and African Languages ​​at the Beijing Foreign Language University and graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree . He then became a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1983 and entered the diplomatic service. From 1983 to 1984 he worked for the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then from 1984 to 1985 at the embassy in the Yemeni Arab Republic . After his return, he was again the Department for West Asian and North African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1985 and 1988 and then from 1988 to 1992 Second Secretary at the Embassy in Oman .

After his return, Zhang was deputy head of the Department for West Asian and North African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1997 and an attaché at the embassy in Israel from 1997 to 2001 . After he was the State Department between 2001 and 2006 deputy director of the General Office, he served from 2006 to 2009 as ambassador in Kenya , and was also as Permanent Representative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi accredited . He was then head of the Department of African Affairs between 2009 and 2010 and head of the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2011. After serving as Assistant Foreign Minister from 2011 to 2013, he held the post of Deputy Foreign Minister between 2013 and 2017.

Zhang Ming has been the Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations since October 2017 .
