Karl Bohnenberger

Karl Bohnenberger (born August 26, 1863 in Riedbach , † October 29, 1951 in Tübingen ) was a German specialist in German and librarian .

Live and act

Karl Bohnenberger studied theology and German language and literature at the University of Tübingen and obtained his doctorate here in 1886 ("The place names of the Swabian Alb area according to their significance for the settlement history"). From 1888 to 1921 he worked as a librarian at the Tübingen University Library , which he headed as director for a few months in 1920/21. The habilitation took place in 1892; Since 1893 he has been teaching German studies at the University of Tübingen in addition to his librarianship , initially as a private lecturer and since 1899 as an associate professor. or honorary professor (1912). In 1921 he became a full professor of German language and literature at this university until his retirement in 1930.

Bohnenberger's research area was primarily in dialect , place and field name research in the Swabian-Alemannic region. He also contributed to the official description of the state and founded the Württemberg field name archive.

Karl Bohnenberger was a great-grandson of the important Tübingen astronomer Johann Gottlieb Friedrich von Bohnenberger (1765-1831).
