After graduating, he did military service as a one-year volunteer . Because of the overcrowding of the classical philological career, Weller could not immediately switch to the state school service. In 1902 Weller was able to start teaching at the Öhringen Progymnasium as a history teacher. In 1908 he switched to the Karls-Gymnasium in Stuttgart as a high school professor , where he stayed until his retirement in 1929.
