St. Michael (Marbeck)

St. Michael is a Roman Catholic church in Borken- Marbeck in the district of Borken , North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a branch church of St. Remigius in Borken . The church and parish belong to the Borken deanery in the Münster diocese .

history

On March 23, 1945 the Remigius Church was destroyed. Afterwards, the Sunday masses were temporarily celebrated on the farms in the municipality of Marbeck. The construction of an emergency church began, which was inaugurated on September 29, 1946.

On February 15, 1949, St. Michael was raised to parish rectorate. The foundation stone for Michaelskirche was laid on September 16, 1956. In the following time the church was built according to plans by the architect Schäfer in Coesfeld. On September 29, 1958, Auxiliary Bishop Heinrich Baaken consecrated Michael’s Church. The bells were consecrated on June 6, 1960. The elevation to the parish took place on February 2, 1961.

In 2001 the choir was completely renovated and received a new font. The executive architect was Nordemann from Ramsdorf.

On January 1, 2004, the independent parish of St. Michael was dissolved by Bishop Reinhard Lettmann and merged with St. Remigius .

Furnishing

The furnishings include a Madonna by the sculptor Gertrud Büscher-Eilert from Leer Ostendorf, which was inaugurated on December 8, 1948 in the old emergency church. The Way of the Cross by Professor Bauer was set up in the emergency church in 1953 and transferred to the Michaelskirche in 1958. The pictures in the windows show the three divine virtues faith, hope and love in the sacristy and the prodigal son and Mary Magdalene in the confessional chapel. In 1961 the baptismal font was completed.

In 1995 a new organ with 19 registers was installed in the church by the Stockmann brothers in Werl .

More buildings

The parsonage from 1948 is now owned by Pastor em. Hans Ludger lives with his housekeeper.

The Engelradingschule was inaugurated on April 12, 1951.

The cemetery chapel was built in the 1950s according to plans by Hans Wehrenberger. It was inaugurated on April 16, 1954. In 1955 she received windows with the motif The seed must die according to designs by Professor Baur.

The war memorial shows a figure of Michael and was created by the sculptor Bücker from Velen near Beckum . The artist was inspired by the figure The Ghost Fighter by Ernst Barlach, so that the works of art are similar. It was inaugurated on May 18, 1958 and later covered with sheet copper by Georg Weddeling.

The St. Michael kindergarten was inaugurated on July 17, 1972.

The old emergency church is now the Marbeck youth home. Various events take place in this and community members can also rent the youth home as a room for private events.
