St. Nikolaus is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Munich district of Hasenbergl , Stanigplatz 13. It was built during the Second Vatican Council in the spirit of ecumenism at the same time as the neighboring Evangelical Gospel Church .

history

The church was built in 1962/63 according to a design by the architect Hansjakob Lill . The foundation stone was laid by Munich Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Neuhäusler on June 17, 1962, the consecration by Cardinal Julius Döpfner on June 23, 1963. The patronage of St. Nikolaus was chosen to commemorate the St. Nicholas Church, which was also part of the original parish of Feldmoching and which burned down in 1800 and was located north of the Hasenbergl in Nieder- Hochmutting .

The red brick church is designed as a central building with four semicircular wall shells. Four reinforced concrete pillars support the tent-like roof. In the raised center of the church stands the basalt altar on bronze feet . The tabernacle in a bronze column next to the altar was created by the sculptor Max Faller . The four ceiling-high stained glass windows, which represent the four main festivals of the church year ( Christmas, Easter, Whitsun and All Saints' Day ), are the work of the glass painter Hans Dumler, who also created the Stations of the Cross . The basalt font with the symbol of the Trinity was created by the sculptor Konstantin Frick .

A connecting corridor leads to the free-standing church tower made of exposed concrete. A chapel was built into the base of the tower , which extends to the bell chamber, in which a five-part bronze bell (c '- es' - f' - as' - b ') was installed by the Erdinger bell foundry . The eight windows of the tower chapel are made by the Munich glass painter Karlheinz Krug. On the top of the tower is a copper tower cock made by the sculptor Richard Stammberger, which shows the direction of the wind.

The organ 24 with registers was manufactured in 1998 by Orgelbau Vleugels .

The first parish curate was Rupert Höckmayr from August 1, 1961. He was followed on September 1, 1964 by Matthias Keilhacker, who was appointed pastor on July 19, 1965 .
