history

Church building

A church in Hallschlag is mentioned for the first time in 1301. This small chapel was rebuilt and expanded in the 15th century in the Gothic style . In 1644 a new choir was added and in 1786 the small church received a new tower. In the middle of the 19th century the church became too small and it was decided to build a new and larger church. Around 1867, a three-aisled, neo-Gothic hall church with a choir closed on three sides and a bell tower in front of it was built in place of the old church. The Cologne architect Vincenz Statz provided the plans . The church was finally consecrated in 1872. In 1902 a fire broke out that severely damaged the building. Then the church was rebuilt in more magnificent forms, which is why the church was also called " Eifeldom ". In the Second World War , the church was destroyed except for the surrounding walls. Between 1949 and 1950 the church was rebuilt in simple forms and consecrated again on November 6, 1950. During the reconstruction, the interior was not divided between the main nave and two side aisles, so that the building no longer has three aisles, but only has one aisle.

parish

Hallschlag was made a parish in 1803. The parish of St. Cornelius in Scheid (Eifel) also belongs to today's parish .

Furnishing

In the church there are still some figures from the 19th century. The Way of the Cross was added in 1966 and the windows in 1950. The oldest piece of equipment is the baptismal font from 1720.
