history

The foundation stone was laid on August 22, 1926, and the church was consecrated on May 1, 1927 by Dean Carl Kopp from Celle.

The Faßberg Air Base , which opened in 1934, also belonged to the pastoral care district of St. Paulus , in whose housing estate the simultaneous church of St. Michael was built in 1938 and the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1967 .

From 1939 on, the church had its own pastor, and since at least 1940 Catholic church records have been kept in Unterlüß . In April 1945 the church was damaged by acts of war, and it was repaired again by 1950. On July 1, 1957, the Catholic parish was established in Unterlüß. In 1990 the Heilig-Geist-Kirche belonged to the parish of St. Paulus.

Since August 1st, 2004 the church belongs to the parish of St. John the Baptist, the parish of St. Paul was dissolved in this context.

Architecture and equipment

The rectory is directly adjacent to the church to the west, on which there is a cross-crowned roof turret . At the beginning of the 20th century, other churches such as the Herz Jesu (Eilsleben) , St. Marien (Loburg) , St. Josef (Löderburg) and Maria Hilfe der Christisten (Wietze) were built in this design . The sacristy and the parish hall were added later. The chancel of the church is decorated with representations of eight saints, the ambo shows the patron saint of the church. To the left and right of the chancel there are statues of Saints Joseph of Nazareth and Mary (mother of Jesus) . Two stained glass windows created by Claus Kilian show scenes from the life of St. Paul. A floor cross is in the garden.
