The Sankt Josef Church was the Catholic church in Löderburg , a district of Staßfurt in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt . Most recently she belonged to the parish of “St. Marien “with seat in Staßfurt, in the deanery Egeln of the diocese of Magdeburg . The church named after St. Joseph of Nazareth was located at Gänsefurther Straße 14b. Today, the “Immaculate Conception” church in Staßfurt, just under four kilometers away, is the closest Catholic church.

history

In the second half of the 19th century, triggered by the need for labor in mining and agriculture, the population of Löderburg increased significantly. Catholic workers and their families also settled in Löderburg, which has been an Evangelical Lutheran since the introduction of the Reformation .

In 1868 a mission parish was established in nearby Staßfurt , which initially included Löderburg. Staßfurt and Löderburg belonged to the diocese of Paderborn at that time .

On September 28, 1902, the newly built Löderburg church was consecrated and named after St. Joseph, the patron saint of workers. Most of the time the church was looked after by clergymen from Staßfurt. Only from the establishment of the Löderburg Curate on August 1, 1970 until 1981 did the church have a local priest .

On May 2, 2010 the parish “St. Marien Staßfurt-Egeln ”, which also included the church in Löderburg.

As the number of Catholics in Löderburg fell sharply again towards the end of the 20th century, the church was closed in 2011. The last Holy Mass took place on November 27, 2011 , and the church was profaned . At that time, only about 70 Catholics lived in Löderburg.

Architecture and equipment

The building complex consists of the former rectory located on the street , it is crowned by a roof turret. To the east is geostete nave grown. According to this construction principle, Catholic churches were built in Atzendorf , Eilsleben , Hecklingen , Loburg , Sandersleben , Unseburg , Unterlüß and Wietze , among others .
