The Church of the Heart of Jesus is the Catholic church in Eilsleben , a municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish " St. Marien " with seat in Oschersleben , in the deanery Egeln of the diocese of Magdeburg . The church named after the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located at Ummendorfer Straße 5 (corner of Fuchsberg).

In the 16th century, the population in the Eilsleben area became Evangelical-Lutheran with the introduction of the Reformation .

Only in the second half of the 19th century did Catholics settle again in large numbers in Eilsleben, it was mainly seasonal workers from the Eichsfeld . Later workers from Poland joined them. The construction of the Braunschweig – Magdeburg railway line and other branch lines also brought new jobs to Eilsleben. At first they belonged to the parish in Meyendorf, about 11 kilometers away .

In June 1896 the foundation stone for the Herz-Jesu-Kirche was laid in Eilsleben, and in spring 1897 it was inaugurated. As a result of the Second World War , the number of Catholics also increased in Eilsleben as a result of the influx of expellees from the eastern regions of the German Empire . Since the beginning of the 1990s, the Sacred Heart Congregation has been linked by a partnership with the parish of St. Joseph in Lünen ( Archdiocese of Paderborn ). The church was extensively renovated from 1995 to 1997, and its organ was renovated in 2009 .

On October 13, 2007, the community association "Eilsleben - Großalsleben - Hadmersleben - Hamersleben - Hötensleben - Klein Oschersleben - Oschersleben - Sommerschenburg - Völpke" was established, to which the Sacred Heart Church has belonged since then. The church was built as a brick building in the neo-Gothic style. The church has the adjoining parish hall, on which there is a cross-crowned roof turret with three bells . In this design, other churches such as St. Marien (Loburg) , St. Josef (Löderburg) , St. Paulus (Unterlüß) and Maria Hilfe der Christisten (Wietze) were built around the beginning of the 20th century .

The church stalls leave a central aisle free and offer 120 seats. The ceiling painting in the nave is from the early days of the church, it was later painted over and exposed and restored during the renovation that took place from 1995 to 1997. The chancel is dominated by a winged altar . The winged altar designed by Meinolf Splett (1911–2009) from Halle (Saale) was previously in the former pastoral assistant seminar in Magdeburg (Oststrasse 18). The celebration altar is a work by Werner Nickel (* 1935) from Nienburg (Saale) . In the apse there is a representation of the Lamb of God from 1927. To the left and right of the chancel there is a statue of the Sacred Heart and a statue of Mary , on the side walls there are 14 stations of the Cross . The baptismal font , a confessional , a crucifix and a small relief depicting St. Anthony of Padua are located under the organ gallery . There is also a Pietà in memory of the fallen , in front of which sacrificial candles can be placed. A mission cross in the churchyard commemorates the people's mission from 1959, and there is also a small St. Mary's grotto .
