St. Peter is the Roman Catholic Church on the East Frisian island of Spiekeroog . It was completed and consecrated in 1970 based on a design by Walter Bunsmann in collaboration with Jörn Rau , making it the youngest of the East Frisian Catholic island churches.

About forty Catholics live on Spiekeroog. St. Peter is the only Catholic church besides two Protestant churches on Spiekeroog, the Old Island Church and the larger new Protestant church from the early 1960s. The church on a dune overlooking the lake was built to set a “spiritual sea mark ” , especially for the increasing number of holidaymakers . It has the shape of a polygonal pyramid or an Indian tent , with the tip moved out of the center of the base. The copper roof extends to the floor and is criss-crossed by three narrow window strips at the full height.

Inside, the roof is clad with light wood. The altar area, which is pushed far into the middle of the room, is not raised, but only delimited by the floor design. Below the altar is the lowest point of the church, just below the top of the tent roof. Altar and Ambo are made of bronze made and take the symbolism of tarpaulin or sailcloth on. The altar, the lectern, the cross, the holy water stoup and the candlestick were made by Hermann Stehr , one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important artists, as commissioned work for St. Peter. The lamp hanging from the top of the tent roof, which almost reaches down to the altar and symbolically connects heaven and earth, also comes from Stehr.

The seating consists of wooden folding chairs that reinforce the motif of mobility and pilgrimage on which the entire building is based. For each chair, the community members crocheted colorful seat cushions from scraps of wool, each one unique.

The patronage of the apostle Peter is reminiscent of biblical stories such as the storm at sea or the fisherman's word, but also of the church's affiliation to the Diocese of Osnabrück .

In addition to regular church services, the church is also the venue for concerts, choir performances, open singing evenings and Taizé devotions.
