Life

Hermann Stehr was born in 1937 in Uetersen near the monastery and lived in his hometown until 1989. He was considered one of the most important artists in Schleswig-Holstein . His works can be found in many places in the country, in public buildings as art in architecture , in museums and private collections. In Uetersen, his hometown, some of his sculptures can be found, one of them in the courtyard of the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium . Another well-known art object is located in Oststeinbek at a gymnasium built in 1985. It shows three realistically represented groups of athletes, ring and balance beam gymnasts and volleyball players. Three artists took part in the competition as part of a "Art in Public Space" invitation to tender. 80 percent of the population had chosen Hermann Stehr's work.

Besides the topic of man he dealt almost exclusively with the naturally occurring form of the world. Ulrich Gertz, Professor of Art History at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences , described Stehr's work in 1988 as follows: “Hermann Stehr's art strikes the balance between abstraction and objectivity. He has nowhere withdrawn from nature, from it he hones its special formal language, his works speak this language. "

Stehr created numerous sculptures, fountains and reliefs. They can be found mainly in northern Germany.

In 1989 Stehr left Germany and emigrated to Mexico . “He experienced and painted Mexico as if in a frenzy. In the few remaining years, the sculptor finally became the painter Hermann Stehr. Only in his home's noticed no one, neither the conversion to the painter in the color noise , nor that he had success, "says the artist Prof. Erhard Divine occasion of an exhibition of works from Mexico, in 1995 and 1996 in Elmshorn , Pinneberg and Kiel were shown .

Hermann Stehr died on August 2, 1993 in Mexico City of cancer. He was only 56 years old.
