Walter Bunsmann

Walter Josef Maria Bunsmann (born January 16, 1928 in Paderborn ; died June 9, 2017 in Tornesch ) was a German architect .

After his childhood in Paderborn, he had to do military service as early as 1943 as an air force helper and later as a soldier. After the Second World War he made up his Abitur and began studying architecture at the TH Karlsruhe in 1948 with Otto Ernst Schweizer , Arnold Tschira and Egon Eiermann , from which he graduated in 1953. From 1953 to 1959 Bunsmann worked for Hans Bernhard Reichow , Godber Nissen and Max Zoder. From 1960 to 1963 he was a construction consultant at Reemtsma and in 1963 founded his own office together with Jörn Rau . Gerhard Scharf also joined this in 1965 . While Rau left in 1970, Bunsmann and Scharf continued their partnership until 1990. He then worked as a freelance architect until 1994 .

Walter Bunsmann was Vice President of the Hamburg Chamber of Architects from 1967 to 1978 and then its President until 1990. In addition, from 1971, he served as Vice President of the Federal Chamber of Architects for two years . From 1983 to 1987 he was a member of the building deputation and in 1987 a member of the city planning committee in Hamburg . Bunsmann continued to teach building studies at the University of Applied Sciences for Artistic Ceramics in Höhr-Grenzhausen until 2001.
