The church of St. Peter am Bichl , first mentioned in 1371, stands on the hill west of the center of Völs, which has been inhabited since the older Bronze Age . The nave, the apse and the lower part of the tower date from the 13th century.

In 1498, work began on converting to late Gothic shapes with a ribbed vault instead of the original wooden ceiling. This made the roof pitch steeper and both gables increased. The south portal made of reddish sandstone, which has also been modified, shows the coats of arms of the Thun and Firmian families above the door on both sides of the crossed Petruskeys , corresponding to the two wives Regina von Thun and Katharina von Firmian of Leonhard the Elder of Völs . The winged altar , which was probably donated in 1510 to mark the end of the renovation work, is exhibited in the parish museum for security reasons. In the predella you can see St. Catherine on a golden background and St. Barbara on the right . The relief of Anna selbdritt , which originally occupied the center, was sold at the turn of the 20th century and replaced by a copy, which was stolen again in 1937. When closed, the wings show an Annunciation with the angel with a banner and shepherd's staff on the left and Mary at the prayer desk on the right. The insides of the wings show reliefs of St. Paul on the left and St. Andreas right. In the shrine the church patron can be seen with tiara and book flanked by the two Johns. A pulpit (around 1600) on the north wall and the nave windows that were broken out at the same time are the last structural changes in the nave. The roof of the tower with the half-hip roof , however, only dates from 1862 as a replacement for the original that was destroyed by a lightning strike.
