St. Martin in Ums

St. Martin in Ums is a branch church of the Völser parish church Maria Himmelfahrt in Ums. The church was mentioned for the first time as early as 1326, but the first building has not survived: it was destroyed by a landslide in 1585. Only the entrance, a pointed arch portal, was transferred from the old to the new church. Today's building is very simple and consists of a barrel-vaulted nave and a choir with groin vault, which was added in 1683. The striking mural of St. Martin above the main portal dates from the 18th century.

The former altar , now in the parish church, was purchased in 1617 at the end of the construction work. In terms of art history, it stands between the late Gothic and the Renaissance : the three-part predella, central image, and top continue the scheme of late Gothic winged altars, while the arched images and the straight entablature correspond more to the forms of the Renaissance. In the middle picture the church patron is between St. Ulrich and St. Anthony , the side pictures show John and Peter .

With the construction of the choir in 1683, a new altar in baroque style was afforded , which is still in the church today. In the altar sheet, which comes from later times, is St. Martin between two saints, including Judas Thaddäus . It is flanked by sculptures of St. Ulrich and St. Antony. The top picture Mariahilf is a copy of the famous miraculous picture in the cathedral of St. Jakob in Innsbruck .
