The Franciscan monastery church, the east facade of which is oriented towards the castle , was added to the buildings of the monastery as a late baroque hall church from 1731 to 1735 according to the plans of the court architect Andrea Gallasini . The consecration took place on August 17, 1735. After the secularization in 1803, the prince abbey was secularized and the Franciscans moved to the Frauenberg monastery in Fulda. One brother stayed in Dermbach and looked after the Catholic parish, which continued to have a right of use. The church and the rectory have been church property again since 1996.

architecture

The two-storey facade is structured by pilasters, the attic with a cornice is kept low. The triangular gable is laterally accompanied by volutes, the roof tower with onion dome is slated. The rectangular portal with split gable is decorated with the coat of arms of Prince Abbot Adolph von Deling. The keystone shows the year 1735. In a niche above is a statue of St. Francis , the wall is divided by arched windows. In the row above there are three larger than life statues in niches, it is about Jesus Christ and the hll. Mary and Joseph . The cornice above the central figure is cranked. The walls of the nave are divided by high arched windows and pilaster strips with a cranked cornice, above which are blended ooculi. The choir stands on a polygonal floor plan, it is divided by corner pilasters. The coat of arms of the abbot can be seen on the choir arch. Pilasters with ionizing capitals are placed in front of the pillars in the hall. The barrel cap vault with straps is heavily profiled.

The interior was improperly painted in color in 1898, probably in line with contemporary tastes, at the same time the sandstone slabs of the floor were replaced by colorful tiles and small colored windows were installed. During the renovation from 1964 to 1972, the glass windows from 1898 and the ornamental painting were removed and the interior, as well as the individual sculptures and the altars were redesigned. The colorful tile floor was removed and replaced by gray limestone slabs laid in a Roman compound .

Furnishing

Cross in the cemetery

Most of the furnishings come from the time the church was built.

  • The high altar in stucco marble of different colors has a moving column structure, the entablature is cranked. It swings up high into the vault, the volutes of the crown are strongly curved. The figures come from a crucifixion group , on the volutes stand angels with the instruments of passion . The wounds of Christ in the excerpt are in a wreath of clouds and are accompanied by putti. Larger-than-life carved figures of the apostles Peter and Paul stand above the passageways .
  • The side altars are smaller than the high altar and have a different color. On the right altar there are figures of St. Antonius , Franziskus and Johannes Nepomuk , on the left side altar are the figures of the Mother of God and St. To see Elisabeth and Joseph. The paintings in the excerpts with the depictions of Mary and St. Johannes Nepomuk were painted in 1896. The antependia were painted on canvas in the second half of the 18th century.
  • The reliefs on the confessionals and the stalls are considered good carvings.
  • The font is decorated with acanthus tendrils and shell niches.
  • The simple organ was built in 1864 by the Peternell brothers from Seligenthal, and a Vespers picture of St. Michael from the 18th century.
  • In the walled cemetery belonging to the church there is a stone Arma Christ cross from 1852.
