location

Architecture and history

The hall church was built between 1592 and 1594. To the west of the nave there is a massive church tower. He has been wearing a pointed spire since 1875. Before that, there was a baroque hood with a lantern . To the side of the tower there are vestibules built in 1909. The tower hall itself is used as a memorial and archive space for the churches in the region that were destroyed by open-cast lignite mining .

At the east end of the nave, the choir, which is closed off on three sides, has moved into the nave. On the outside, the ship is structured by struts. The windows are provided with two-part tracery . A sacristy was added on the north side of the church in 1693/94 . It is provided with a groin vault . The council gallery is located above the sacristy. In a town fire in 1639 the church was damaged and then repaired. Further restorations took place in 1850 and between 1992 and 1997.

The interior of the church is spanned by a flat ceiling added in 1652. The choir was originally provided with a vault, of which remains of the consoles are still preserved. In the church there is a three-sided gallery built in 1850. It is decorated with paintings that were taken over from a previous baroque gallery. The paintings created by Michael Hofmann in 1695 show scenes from the childhood and passion of Jesus. The parapet of the council gallery is decorated with two emblems created in the second half of the 17th century.

The large, painted winged altar, probably created around 1490 by the master of the Sachsenburg altar panels , is remarkable . The altar was originally located in the Ernstkapelle of Magdeburg Cathedral and came to the church in 1664 as a gift from Duke August. The coronation of Mary is shown on the middle panel. The inside of the side wings show Mauritius and Stephanus, the patrons of the cathedral churches of Magdeburg and Halberstadt . The adoration of the Magi is depicted on the outer sides. The predella shows busts of angels as well as Saxon coats of arms and an inscription referring to the donation.

Another winged altar is on the south side of the ship. It was created at the beginning of the 16th century and came into the church together with the large reredos . Three apostles are depicted in the shrine. In the middle Thomas, on the left James the Elder and on the right probably Simon. Simon is shown in an unusual way with a hatchet. The wings show Judas Thaddäus on the inside on the left and Saint Nicholas on the right. Ulrich von Augsburg and Saint Wolfgang are depicted on the outside .

Two panel paintings on the southern wall also date from the beginning of the 16th century. They represent the saints Kunigunde and Aldegunde and were originally probably the wings of a retable. There is a large triumphal cross on the north side. The late Gothic cross dates from the second half of the 15th century and was originally in the St. Nicholas Church in Leuna . On the side of the cross there are two pictures from the 18th century depicting pastors. The late Gothic font dates from the 15th century. It is located in the choir and has a three-dimensional tracery frieze.

Two late Gothic wooden sculptures from the end of the 15th century come from the former village church of Deumen . They are arranged to the side of the high altar. The left represents Anna Selbdritt , the right represents Saint Nicholas. In the northern portal vestibule of the Sankt-Petri-Kirche there is a renaissance bell with many decorations , which originally belonged to the church of Köttichau , which was destroyed in 1961 .

The present in the church chandelier made of brass back to the 18th century. The organ was created in 1851 by Friedrich Ladegast and restored in 1998 by the Wegscheider organ workshop .

In the local register of monuments , the church is registered as an architectural monument under registration number 094 86924 .
