St. Petrus in Griesbach

The St. Petrus branch church is a sacred structure in the Griesbach district of the Upper Bavarian town of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm . The church and its furnishings are under monument protection.

location

The hamlet of Griesbach is located approx. 5 km northeast of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, in the southern foothills of the Hallertau at a lateral incision in the Ilm valley . At this point the borders of the dioceses of Freising , Regensburg and Augsburg meet . A heavily trafficked old road led to Geisenhausen through the hamlet, which has consisted of only two farms since the High Middle Ages. The Romanesque choir tower church of St. Peter stands on a hill between these two courtyards .

history

The tower of St. Petrus is late Romanesque, its ground floor dates from the 13th century. The nave and tower tower are dated to the 14th century. However, the upper floors of the tower, the pressed, ogival sound openings of the bell chamber as well as the choir remodeling indicate the beginning of Gothic influences.

Building description

The building is an unplastered brick building made of bricks of different sizes with a steep gable roof, the four-story choir tower to the east has a gable roof and a surrounding frieze of round-arched blind arcades with a German ribbon . The solid brick building still shows scaffolding holes today, which suggest that the building was never plastered. The western facade is supported by a brick foundation strip and two sloping corner pillars.

There is a wooden ceiling inside the nave . The retracted choir , which is located in the basement of the tower, is spanned by a net vault.

Furnishing

The church is equipped with a classical altar, which - like the building - is a listed building. Figures of saints from the 16th century can be found next to the choir on the left ( Madonna with the pear ), on the right of the choir St. Sebastian and in the middle of the high altar a representation of Peter with the key to heaven .
