St. Pius X is a Catholic parish in the Düsseldorf district of Eller in the so-called cucumbers country , near the border with district Oberbilk . The parish of the same name belongs to the pastoral care area of Unter- and Oberbilk, Friedrichstadt and Eller-West.

history

The emergence of the community is closely linked to the Gurkenland, an allotment garden colony , which after the end of the Second World War increasingly became a regular settlement area in the heavily destroyed city. The parish of St. Josef in Oberbilk was religiously responsible, but the church there was far away. In 1950 a trailer was set up as a chapel and a barrack was built as an emergency church in 1957 .

On 11 October 1959, the construction of the current church, which on March 19, 1961 commemorating the holy Pope began Pius X was consecrated. In the same year the survey on the rectorate parish took place. Four years later, a community center was built, and in 1971 renovation work took place inside.

architecture

St. Pius X. has an octagonal floor plan. Red brick-like masonry is visible from the outside. The church has a single nave. The tower is on the side. It has a rectangular floor plan and a gable roof.
