Choir

The Catholic chapel of St. Rochus and St. Sebastian in Sollach , a district of the municipality of Valley in the Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach , was built in 1797 on the site of a plague chapel from the 17th century. The chapel is dedicated to the plague saints Rochus of Montpellier and Sebastian .

history

The place Sollach was first mentioned in writing at the end of the 11th century in a Tegernsee document as "Solouuan". In 1634, in the midst of the Thirty Years' War , the plague raged in Sollach, numerous families from Sollach and the surrounding areas were wiped out. Presumably the survivors built the plague chapel in the following years.

Under the provost Rupert Sigl of the Weyarn Monastery , to which Sollach belonged, a new chapel was built, which was consecrated in 1797. In 1871 the original onion hood of the ridge was replaced by a pointed helmet.

architecture

A roof turret is placed over the shingled west facade. The outer walls are structured by glare fields into which arched windows are cut. The entrance is on the south side. The chapel is a hall with a semicircular closed choir . The choir and nave are covered by barrels with stab cap, which rest on flat pilasters with profiled fighters .

Gallery

The gallery has an unusual parapet. It is decorated with a carved tooth-cut decoration and divided into fields in which a Byzantine church facade is shown in inlay .

Furnishing

altar
  • The altar dates from the 17th century. The altarpiece , a copy from around 1860, depicts the Lamentation of Christ , the excerpt shows the Annunciation . On the left of the altar stands a martyr with a heart pierced by arrows in his hand, on the right St. Florian , the patron saint in case of fire. The small figures on the altar mess represent the apostles Peter and Paul .
  • The small figure under the left choir window, Saint Rochus, is dated around 1640 and probably comes from the former plague chapel.
  • The two large figures in the nave represent St. Leonhard and St. Mechthild , who may have been dedicated to the predecessor building of the plague chapel.
