The parish church of St. Sebastian is a listed church building in Poppelsdorf , a district of the city of Bonn . The parish belongs to the Catholic parish community Bonn-Melbtal in the Archdiocese of Cologne .

History and architecture

Poppelsdorf grew at the end of the 19th century due to the influx of university employees and companies. The chapel on Poppelsdorfer Platz was no longer sufficient. The Archdiocese of Cologne decided to build a new church and began in 1888. The architect was Gerhard Franz Langenberg . A three-aisled building was created. Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic building elements were mixed, as is typical of historicism . For financial reasons, it was decided to build in two phases. In 1890 the choir and central nave were completed, and by 1908 the yoke and the facade with the bell tower .

In 1909, the renowned Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen / Bremen supplied four bronze bells (h 0 - d ′ - e ′ - fis ′) with a total weight of approx. 7.7 tons. The three smaller bells still hang from these bells in the tower. Their diameters are: 1430 mm, 1260 mm, 1150 mm. They weigh: 1898 kg, 1459 kg, 1027 kg.
